To answer a couple of questions, the goal was to open the door by getting a key and that's the end of it. Not a very long game, but kinda difficult if I'm honest. I'm not sure what about the game became so demanding performance-wise, but considering the creatures are the only entity other than the player that's actively doing anything, they may be the source.
